John Sterling is a Hippie

We know there’s the Sterling Shake. And the Hippy Hippy Shake. Now get ready for John Sterling the Hippie.

Cleary, Sterling loves the past. Some of his latest home run calls have their inspiration in the 1940s and 1970s. Now, Steeling is tipping his hat to those hippy, dippy 1960s.

At the end of yesterday’s game, Sterling proudly declared that “Everything is groovy in Yankeeland!” Groovy? Really? I’m all for a little slang from the summer of love, but not when I’m listening to a baseball game in 2010.

  1. Well, listen, dood, it is "groovy". Take note: JOHN STERLING! was clearly seen wearing a tie-die suit during that game--apparently Waldman's been slipping some liquid into his Bigelow Green tea and it's been doing wonders for JOHN STERLING!'s demeanor. He just can't stop giggling. I believe he also turned to Suzyn at one point and appropriately said, "hello lampost, whatcha knowin'?" I fully expect him to be getting wavier and gravier thru-out the season. My prediction: the Yankee season will culminate with a full launch cd of psychedelic versions of show tunes to be produced by Yankee supporter Beatle Paul McCartney with the dulcet plectrum thrummings of Bernie "Bern-Baby-Bern" Williams and "Pretty" Paul O'Neill on the skins, not to mention an out of body channeling of Eddie Layton on Hammond B-3 for requiste fonk. To be called: Pin-Striped Psych-Out brought to you by Vonage. This will rocket to the top of the Billboard charts faster than you can say "Jack Robinson" and the children of the Yankees Universe will unite in joyous and delerious harmonizings this world hasn't seen since Hands Across America. It's gonna drop in October, mark it in yr datebooks.

We're just starting getting groovy . . . and Sterling will be our sparkling beacon in the night.
